A former world heavyweight champion has put himself forward for a potential showdown with unbeaten British contender Moses Itauma.

Itauma has established himself as one of the most exciting fighters in the heavyweight division over the last 18 months. The 21-year-old from Kent remains unbeaten in 13 bouts since making his professional debut back in January of 2023, racking up 11 stoppage victories along the way.

Itauma is set to make his long-awaited return to action on Saturday March 28 when he locks horns with America’s Jermaine Franklin at the Co-op Live Arena in Manchester, England.

Whilst he will have his sights set on pushing towards a world title shot this year, Itauma has been targeted by former WBO world heavyweight champion Shannon Briggs, who has expressed an interest in facing the unbeaten Brit.

In an interview with Duke McKenzie, Briggs didn’t hesitate to put himself forward to face Itauma as he claims he would love to resume his career in England in a surprising admission.

“Yeah but I’d fight Moses too. Listen you know, England’s my second home I love England. I love it there, I really love it there. It’s my place. I always said if I was to leave America I’d probably go to England. So I’d love to resume my career in England hopefully.”

Briggs has been out of action since he stopped Emilio Zarate in the opening round of their clash in London back in May 2016, but the 54-year-old from Brooklyn has left the door open for a return to the ring over the last few years and could finally turn that into a reality in 2026.
