Former Heavyweight Champion Who Fought Tyson Fury Scraps Comeback Fight Over ‘Financial Dispute’

Deontay Wilder‘s future is currently up in the air.

‘The Bronze Bomber’ was the long-reigning WBC heavyweight champion and seen as one of the most fearsome punchers in the history of the division, but his career has taken a number of blows in recent years.

Back-to-back defeats to Tyson Fury, along with one-sided losses to Joseph Parker and Zhilei Zhang means that the American has come up short in four of his last five fights, with plenty of speculation over what he will do next.

Despite many calls to retire, it was reported that ‘The Bronze Bomber’ was set to return to action in early 2025, with Curtis Harper linked as being the man that would be facing the 39-year-old in his next fight.

Harper was seen as a straightforward comeback for Wilder due to him having a record of 18-11, and he famously walked out of the ring in protest at the first bell of a 2018 fight with Efe Ajagba.

Discussions around the Wilder vs. Harper fight went quiet over the past month, with Brunch Boxing now reporting that disagreements over money is what caused the bout to fall through.

“The proposed bout between former WBC Heavyweight Champion Deontay Wilder and Curtis Harper has been cancelled after a financial dispute with the BLK Prime platform. Wilder still plans to return in the first half of 2025.”

The collapse of the bout means ‘The Bronze Bomber’ is once again searching for his next opponent, but one hard-hitting heavyweight has claimed that he plans to knock out both Wilder and Anthony Joshua.
