Former world heavyweight champion Deontay Wilder is due to return to the ring for the first time since last June.
The 39-year-old former long-reigning WBC champion has suffered back-to-back defeats at the hands of Joseph Parker and Zhilei Zhang, but has vowed to fight on after it was speculated that he could walk away from the sport.
His devastating knockout defeat against ‘Big Bang’ Zhang last summer left many fans and pundits wondering if it would be the last time they would see ‘The Bronze Bomber’ in the ring, although it appears Wilder has confirmed his desire to continue his career, which began back in 2008.
In a shock revelation, former world heavyweight champion Shannon Briggs has offered Wilder an opportunity to face him in his comeback fight, which is expected to take place in either April or May of this year.
Speaking to FightHub TV, ‘The Cannon’ expressed his desire to face the 39-year-old as he claims a battle between the heavyweights would be ‘great’.
“I would like to fight him, I think it would be a great fight in Alabama when he comes back.
I never really retired, they just won’t fight me. I’m going to fight in March so if he wants to go, we can go.”
Briggs last fought back in 2016 when he knocked out Emilio Zarate in the 1st-round of their bout in London. The 53-year-old has left the door open for a return to the sport since then, targeting a number of both active and inactive heavyweights including Ukrainian legend Wladimir Klitschko, who has also set his sights on a potential return to boxing.
