A former opponent of Canelo Alvarez believes a rematch with the Mexican superstar will definitely happen in the near future.
The 34-year-old from Guadalajara is almost 70 fights into what has been an outstanding professional career, which began when he was just 15-years-old.
Canelo has already captured world titles across four weight classes, where he currently reigns as the unified WBC, WBA and WBO world champion at super-middleweight.
As he prepares to face IBF super-middleweight champion William Scull in an attempt to become the undisputed champion at 168lbs once again, Canelo has been targeted for a rematch against one of his former rivals.
Speaking on Cigar Talk, super middleweight contender Edgar Berlanga Jr, who was beaten by Canelo last September, believes he is just one win away from securing a second encounter against Canelo.
“I just gotta beat [Jaime] Munguia. We fight Munguia I’m gonna knock him the f**k out, he’s giving me that rematch. Because the fans are gonna call for it. The fans know it’s unfinished business, that chapter with me and him is not closed, I promise you.
“I told you the last time I’m gonna fight Canelo right? I’m gonna tell you right now, the chapter is not closed between me and him, we need to run that back.
“But, for me to run that back, I gotta make a mark, I gotta knock Munguia out. Even if I gotta fight Plant and knock Plant out, and then we talk.”
Berlanga returned to the ring with an explosive opening round knockout victory over Jonathan Ortiz on March 15, with his next outing rumoured to be coming against former WBO super-welterweight champion Jaime Munguia, who faces Bruno Surace in their highly-anticipated rematch on May 3 in Riyadh, Saudi Arabia.
