Former Heavyweight Champ Vows To Be ‘Better Than Ever’ After Announcing Return: “I Want Him Next”

A former world heavyweight champion is targeting a showdown with Deontay Wilder after announcing his plans to return.

Known by most as ‘The Bronze Bomber’, Wilder has not fought since suffering back-to-back defeats against Joseph Parker and Zhilei ‘Big Bang’ Zhang respectively.

It had been speculated that the former long-reigning WBC heavyweight champion could call time on his rollercoaster professional career, although it appears that the 39-year-old from Tuscaloosa, Alabama plans to bounce back and push towards becoming a world champion once again.

Wilder is set to return to the ring against countryman Tyrrell Herndon in Wichita on June 27, in what should be a relatively straight forward comeback fight for the once formidable puncher.

Another fighter who has thrown his hat into the ring for a potential clash with ‘The Bronze Bomber’ is former WBO heavyweight champion Shannon Briggs, who has not fought in almost a decade.

Speaking to Fight Hub TV, Briggs said he would relish a fight against the former WBC champion.

“I would like to fight him, I think it would be a great fight in Alabama when he comes back. I never really retired, they just won’t fight me… if he wants to go, we can go.”

Briggs is reported to be returning on July 1 return, with an opponent yet to be announced, but declared he will be ‘more dangerous than ever’.

“I’ve been out of the ring, but I never stopped being a fighter. I’m coming back stronger, faster, and more dangerous than ever. This isn’t just a fight—it’s a movement. LET’S GO CHAMP!”

Briggs, who is now 53-years-old, has not fought since he defeated Emilio Zarate in London 9-years ago.
