“I Need Those Belts Back”: Former Heavyweight Champion Vows To Regain Title As Comeback Confirmed

A former long-reigning world heavyweight champion has sent a message out to the rest of the division as he prepares to return.

It has been almost one year since Deontay Wilder was brutally knocked out by Zhilei ‘Big Bang’ Zhang in Riyadh, but the 39-year-old from Alabama is just weeks away from making his return to the ring.

The former WBC heavyweight champion was expected to announce his retirement from the sport after suffering the fourth defeat of his professional career, with all four of those losses coming in his last five outings.

Despite this, ‘The Bronze Bomber’ confirmed his return last month and is now just a matter of weeks away from facing countryman Tyrrell Herndon in his comeback bout, which takes place at the Charles Koch Arena in Wichita on June 27.

In an interview with 78SPORTSTV, Wilder sets his sights on bouncing back and reclaiming the heavyweight championship after what has been a difficult 18 months for the hard-hitting American.

“Here I am, the mission is the same, I gotta get these titles man, I gotta do what I gotta do, to feel that greatness, to show the world how great I am, like they know I am.

It continues, and I’m looking forward to it. I feels good to be a veteran.”

Victory over Herndon could push Wilder forward to a showdown with one of the top ten heavyweights, with Anthony Joshua and Jarrell Miller emerging as potential opponents for the 39-year-old.
