A former trainer of Anthony Joshua has sent a word of warning to Jake Paul ahead of his showdown with the two-time world heavyweight champion.
Joshua and Paul are gearing up to do battle in an eight round sanctioned heavyweight contest at the Kaseya Center in Miami on Friday December 19.
‘AJ’ is yet to compete since he was beaten in devastating fashion by former IBF heavyweight champion Daniel Dubois in September 2024.
Paul was last in action on June 28 when he comprehensively outpointed Mexico’s Julio Cesar Chavez Jr at the conclusion of their cruiserweight meeting in California.
Speaking to Fight Hype, Joshua’s former trainer Derrick James shared his thoughts on the controversial showdown between Joshua and Paul which he says is going to be ‘interesting’.
“What I’ll say is that it’s going to be pretty interesting… I have no idea what the outcome will be… I’m looking forward to seeing that.”
James then shared his thoughts on the punching power of ‘AJ’ as he appears to issue a warning to Paul ahead of what is undoubtedly the toughest test of his career to date.
“He punched [hard]. We’re not going to get into it but he punched so hard I mean my whole arm and shoulder [hurt]. He punched pretty hard,”
The fight itself is confirmed to be a sanctioned professional bout, rather than an exhibition contest. Both fighters are set to wear 10oz regulation gloves on fight night, something that will play into the hands of ‘AJ’ who has vowed to break Paul’s face.
