Former world champ Rocky Lockridge passes away

Former world super featherweight champion Rocky Lockridge passed away Thursday at the age of 60 at a care home in Camden, New Jersey due to complications from a series of strokes and pneumonia.

Lockridge had a history of substance abuse and lived on the streets for a while but due to friends, family and an appearance on the A&E reality show he turned his life around and stayed sober for the last decade.

After amassing a highly impressive amateur record of 210 wins and 8 loses, Lockridge turned pro, with the highlight coming in 1984 when he knocked out Roger Mayweather to win the WBA super featherweight title. After losing the crown a year later, Lockridge won the IBF 130lbs title in 1987 by defeating Australian Barry Michael in Windsor, England and defended the crown twice before losing it to Tony Lopez in 1988.

Rocky Lockridge ended his pro career with 44 wins, 36 knockouts, and 9 losses.
