Former World Champion Reveals He Has Turned Down A Fight With Jake Paul: “It Would Be A Mismatch”

Jake Paul is currently searching for his next opponent.

Paul was last in action in November when he had his controversial battle with boxing legend Mike Tyson. ‘Iron Mike’ is now 58-years-old and was having his first professional bout for nearly two decades, and struggled to cope with his much younger opponent.

‘The Problem Child’ won the fight by unanimous decision, taking his record to 11-1, with his only defeat coming against Tommy Fury in February 2023.

Paul is expected to return to action in the Spring, and one fighter that has been linked to a showdown with the Youtuber-turned-boxer is former world champion Amir Khan.

It appears that won’t be the case though, as Khan has told The Sports Daily that the weight difference would be far too big.

“When I sat with them it was like a mini-negotiation [about] if I would ever step back in that ring again. I do say they’re very honest. I have a lot of respect for them. That’s why I would probably, if I was going to fight again, it’d be for someone like them. Because I respectfully think that they’re looking after the sport, and they’re looking after the fighters.

“We had a little chit chat about how boxing is going and stuff like that. I made it clear to them that Jake’s weight is too big. He’s too heavy. I walk around at 175. He walks around at 210. I think it’d be a mismatch. But there’s other fights out there.

“They did say that they’ve got a few names that they’re going to get back to me with. Maybe we will do something together. Like I said, at the moment, I don’t know if I’m going to do it or not.”

Khan has previously had some harsh words to say about Paul, but the Brit has now admitted he respects the 27-year-old.

“When I met Jake in person – lovely guy, believe it or not. Huge respect. Look, at the end of the day, it’s all entertainment. And I just feel that, sometimes you have to say things to sell something, or sometimes you have to say something to get that audience engaged.

“We know that. And obviously he was cool with it. I was cool with it, and we just moved forward. He showed a lot of respect, he was just being nice.”

It isn’t the first time that negations appear to have broken down for Paul to face a former world champion, after ‘The Problem Child’ revealed he will reject a potential title shot because the opponent isn’t ‘tough enough.’
