A highly-rated former world champion is set to make his highly-anticipated return to the ring after he was stripped of his title earlier this year.
Virginia’s Keyshawn Davis, who is known more commonly as ‘The Businessman’, will return to the ring for the first since he was stripped of his WBO world lightweight title back in June.
The unbeaten American was pencilled in to make the first defence of his crown against Edwin De Los Santos on June 7 but came in at 4.3lbs over the lightweight limit which forced the WBO to strip the 26-year-old of his title.
Davis hinted that he had actually retired from boxing in the weeks that followed but has now made a u-turn on this decision, after it was revealed that he would be making his super-lightweight debut against Jamaine Ortiz on January 31.
In footage released by Fight Hype, a jubilant Davis confirmed that he is ‘back in action’ as he assures he is going to be ‘better than ever’ when he faces his countryman in New York City next month.
“Told you … The Businessman is back in action. They just released the news. Wonderful news. Groundbreaking news. Christmas Day news. They just released the news. I told y’all I was gonna be back and better right? I told y’all that right? Didn’t I tell y’all that?”
Davis’ long-awaited return to the ring against Ortiz is set to take place on the undercard of Teofimo Lopez’s world title defence against Shakur Stevenson at the iconic Madison Square Garden in New York City.
