A former unified world welterweight champion has sent a call-out the way if unbeaten star Jaron Ennis.

Ennis made his much anticipated return to the ring in his hometown last weekend, stopping Portugal’s Uisma Lima in the opening round of their clash at the Wells Fargo Center to capture the vacant WBA interim super-welterweight title.

The 28-year-old from Philadelphia previously held the unified WBA and IBF world welterweight titles, achieving this feat back in April when he stopped Lithuania’s Eimantas Stanionis in the sixth round of their Atlantic City showdown.

As he prepares to continue his push towards becoming a two-weight world champion, Ennis appears to have been targeted for a showdown with countryman and former WBC and WBA welterweight champion Keith Thurman.

In response to claims made by Ennis’ promoter Eddie Hearn that Thurman had been offered the chance to face ‘Boots’ on October 11, ‘One Time’ revealed in an interview with Fight Hub TV that this is ‘fake news’, as he urges Ennis’ team to ‘talk to him’ about a potential future clash between the American duo.

“No he didn’t, stop lying, Eddie, stop lying all right? Come on now, fake news, this America baby, I’m going to call y’all like Trump, fake news alert … I’m an easy guy to talk to, talk to me! Make it happen, don’t talk about me, talk to me all right?”

Thurman made his return to the ring back in March, stopping Australia’s Brock Jarvis in the 3rd round of their non-title clash in Sydney.

The 36-year-old from Florida had been in line to face WBC super-welterweight champion Sebastian Fundora next, but their October 25 has been postponed after ‘The Towering Inferno’ suffered an injury to his hand, though the bout could now be set to take place in January instead.
