Errol Spence may finally be returning to the ring following three years out.
Spence, former unified champion in the welterweight division, held the WBA, WBC and IBF titles between 2017 and 2023. Despite once being a feature on the pound-for-pound list, he has not fought since August 2023, when he lost his undisputed showdown with the great Terence Crawford.
In his day, Spence beat the likes of Kell Brook, Yordenis Ugás, Danny Garcia, Shawn Porter and Mikey Garcia, and many fans would like to see him step through the ropes once more before retirement.
Reports suggest that will happen against Tim Tszyu. The Australian last fought in August when he secured a one-sided victory over Anthony Velazquez, which was part of his rebuilding process after losing twice to Sebastian Fundora in world title fights in 2024 and 2025, and also suffering a devastating KO loss to Bakhram Murtazaliev in between.
Speaking to ProBox TV, Tszyu was asked to lay out his plans after his next fight against Denis Nurja – set for Australia on April 5 – was announced this week.
“Well, first of all, I like to stay busy. They predicted Errol Spence late in the year so for me I’ve never been about waiting, I’m about staying in the gym, doing another camp, it was about getting the chemistry with my coach, learning from each other, getting to know each other better.”
Tszyu – the son of the legendary Russian-Australian Kostya Tszyu who lost his world title to the late Ricky Hatton – will look to impress against the undfeated Nurja to secure enough hype for a returning Spence.
