A former world champion has called out Chris Eubank Jr. following his win over Conor Benn at the weekend.

Eubank vs Benn was one of the most hyped fights in recent years, having been building since October 2022 when they were first scheduled to fight. A failed drug test on Benn’s part meant that date was scrapped, but on April 26 the pair finally got together in the ring to reignite their fathers’ rivalry and put on a highly entertaining contest across 12 all-action rounds.

The more experienced and naturally bigger man got the win on the cards to take his record to 38 fights, 35 wins. His only losses have come against world champion George Groves, former middleweight belt holder Liam Smith – who he then beat by stoppage in a rematch six months later – and Billy Joe Saunders, who beat him narrowly on points 11 years ago.

Now, former middleweight and super middleweight world champion Saunders has now spoken out to BoxNation and claimed that he wants to fight Junior again.

‘I’m going to be honest, I’d probably use Eubank as a warm-up before becoming a three-weight world champion. Looking at him last night, I probably don’t even need a warm-up.”

Saunders – who caused a stir on fight night by attempting to enter Eubank’s dressing room as part of team Benn – is now 35-years-old. He has not fought since May 2021 when he was stopped and had his eye socket broken by Saul ‘Canelo’ Alvarez.

There has long been bad blood between himself and Eubank, but a return to super-middleweight looks a long way off for ‘BJS.’ More likely for Eubank is an already signed rematch with Benn.
