Frank Bruno Has No Doubt Who The Greatest Heavyweight Of All Time Is: “He Had Everything”

Frank Bruno is a British heavyweight great known for his famous bouts with the likes of Mike Tyson and Lennox Lewis.

Londoner Bruno famously became a world heavyweight champion at the fourth time of asking in September 1995 when he beat Oliver McCall to lift the WBC belt he had long chased.

Before that, he had plenty of tough nights in the ring, not least against the Mike Tyson, who he fought and lost to twice, and Lennox Lewis, who went on to become the undisputed champion.

However, neither of these men is at the top of Bruno’s all-time great list. Instead, he believes Muhammad Ali was the best to ever do it. Speaking to 5 News, Bruno was asked to sum up what made the American so special.

“It’s a combination of so many different things I think, his looks, his charms, his boxing, he could fight, he could box, he had a lot of determination, he had a lot of willpower, he had a lot of psychology he used on boxers but he was a very intelligent guy, one of the nice guys you could ever wish to meet. Very talented guy, one of the most powerful guys in the world.”

He was then asked if he was the best ever.

“Yeah, to be honest, all ways round. Definitely, pound for pound, all ways round. Some boxers have power, some have speed, some have skill, he had everything.”

Ali was a dazzling figure who captivated fans with his speed, skill, and unwavering self-belief, capturing the heavyweight title three times. Beyond his boxing prowess, he became a global icon for his social activism and poetic pronouncements, leaving an enduring legacy both inside and outside the ring.

Bruno never fought Ali, but of the men he did fight it is ‘Iron Mike’ that he says was the best of the lot.
