Frank Bruno has given his view on what would happen if Deontay Wilder were ever to have shared the ring with fellow American George Foreman.
Bruno himself became a world champion at the fourth time of asking when he beat Oliver McCall on a historic night at Wembley Stadium in 1995, before then heading to the States to defend his title in a second fight with Mike Tyson. Sadly for Bruno he was stopped early and retired after the final bell.
Wilder, who is a former WBC champion, is towards the end of his own career, having twice lost to Tyson Fury, then Joseph Parker and Zhilei Zhang.
He has just one win over Tyrell Herndon in the last few years, but was recently thrown a lifeline by two-time undisputed ruler Oleksandr Usyk, who has said he is keen on fighting ‘The Bronze Bomber’ next year.
In a round of winner stays on with Clubhouse Boxing, Bruno was asked about prime Wilder against peak Foreman and didn’t hesitate to answer.
“George Foreman, without no doubt.”
Foreman is one of the most beloved boxers of the last century. He was involved in plenty of high profile fights including in 1973 when he demolished Joe Frazier to win the world title, then suffering a famous loss to Muhammad Ali in the 1974 “Rumble in the Jungle.”
He also battled Ron Lyle in a brutal classic and later shocked the world by knocking out Michael Moorer in 1994 to regain the heavyweight crown and become the sport’s oldest ever ruler in the banner division.
