Frank Bruno and Daniel Dubois both boast a career-defining win at Wembley Stadium.

For Bruno, it came in his fourth tilt at a world title having lost the three prior. He beat Oliver McCall over the distance at the national stadium to become WBC Champion.

Fast forward almost 20 years and young Daniel Dubois entered the ring a champion, though he had been elevated from Interim titlist and therefore faced some questions about his legitimacy as one of the top dogs.

Those were all answered when he knocked two-time champion Anthony Joshua down within the first round. Dubois would go on to batter the more experienced heavyweight, scoring a stoppage in the fifth in a performance well worthy of his IBF strap.

Speaking in the aftermath, Bruno praised Dubois but was adamant that a rematch had the potential to look very different.

“I am disappointed I missed a classic fight which I have now watched 3 times. AJ sadly did not come to the table and Daniel made a meal of him. AJ’s trainers will now have to analyse where mistakes were made. As AJ and his team lost not just AJ.

“Should he retire? No, if he is healthy and wants to carry on. Trust me, I would think a different AJ will now come out for the next fight. But lets not forget Daniel and his team what a job and they should be very proud. Also British heavyweight boxing proved last night it is the best in the world!”

Talk of the return fight fell apart when Dubois booked February 22 for his next defence, a date Joshua’s side said he couldn’t make due to niggling injuries. Instead, the champion now puts hie belt on the line against Joseph Parker.

Joshua is interested in the winner of the bout after talk of a long-awaited clash against Tyson Fury was put on ice due to the latter retiring.
