Frank Bruno has had his say on who would have prevailed in a fight between Oleksandr Usyk and prime Lennox Lewis.

Last December, Usyk cemented his position as arguably the greatest heavyweight of his generation with a second consecutive points victory over Tyson Fury to retain his unified WBC, WBA and WBO heavyweight titles in Riyadh.

The Ukrainian superstar captured the undisputed championship in his first battle with ‘The Gypsy King’ last May, but was forced to surrender his IBF crown which led to British heavyweight Daniel Dubois being elevated to full champion ahead of his fight with Anthony Joshua last September, which Dubois won with a devastating 5th-round knockout.

Usyk has already conquered the cruiserweight division, claiming the undisputed championship in 2018 with a comprehensive victory over Murat Gassiev in the final of the World Boxing Super Series. The 37-year-old is reportedly weighing up a move back down to 200lbs, with IBF champion Jai Opetaia keen on making a fight happen in the near future.

Speaking to iFL TV, Bruno made no mistake in backing former opponent Lewis in a fantasy fight against Usyk, claiming the heavyweights of that era were ‘too big’.

“I don’t think in my era he would have got this far. In his era, he’s done very well. I’m not being b****y when I say that, I’m only talking from the heart. He wouldn’t have stood [a chance with the likes of Lennox Lewis]. They’re too big heavyweights for him, naturally big guys, you know.”

Usyk has recently confirmed he will be continuing his glittering career, leaving the door open for a potential rematch with IBF champion Dubiois which could see him become a two-time undisputed heavyweight champion.
