Frank Bruno has shared the ring with Lennox Lewis and has now been asked how he would have fared against George Foreman in his prime.
Bruno is one of this country’s most beloved heavyweights. He had a storied career during the late 1980s and 90s and was famous for having four shots at the world title, losing to Lewis, Tyson and Tim Witherspoon before finally getting a famous win against Oliver McCall at Wembley in 1995 when he lifted the WBC belt.
He fought just once more in 1996 and surrounded the crown to ‘Iron Mike’ before hanging up the gloves for good, retiring with a record of 45 fights, 40 wins and 38 by way of knockout.
In a round of ‘Winner Stays On’ with Club House Boxing, Bruno was asked who comes out on top in a fight between Foreman and Lewis.
“George Foreman.”
Lewis was known for his ramrod jab and boxing smarts, which saw him slowly break down opponents before finishing them with his big right hand.
He was the last undisputed champion back in 1999 before Oleksandr Usyk repeated the feat in 2024 and is widely regarded as one of the best to ever do it.
Foreman holds a record of his own in that he was the oldest man to ever lift the heavyweight world title when he did so after beating Michael Moorer by KO at the age of 46 years old.
Making it all the more impressive is the fact that he had a long spell away from fighting before that fight. He eventually retired in 1997 after losing to Shannon Briggs and passed away in March 2025, though he will forever be recognised as one of the greats of the last century.
