Frank Bruno, like most boxing fans, is keen to see Anthony Joshua and Tyson Fury finally share the ring.

The two British heavyweights have towered over the sport for more than a decade now. Unfortunately, they have not yet been able to get together to battle it out – a fight that once could have been for undisputed honours but now is more bragging rights than belts.

Instead, both men have been on their own courses. Joshua managed to become a unified world champion before losing his belts but then winning them back across a pair of fights with Andy Ruiz in 2019.

He then took on the hardest challenge in the sport right now in Oleksandr Usyk. ‘AJ’ lost both fights on points over 24 hard rounds. He rebuilt once more with four wins before coming unstuck for a fourth time in his career at the fists of Daniel Dubois back in September.

Fury first became a world champion with a victory over Wladimir Klitschko but lost his belts while taking time away from the sport to deal with mental health and addiction issues.

His comeback was defined by a trilogy with Deontay Wilder which saw him draw one and win two epic fights to take the WBC belt, but in his last two outings he has, like Joshua, lost across 24 rounds to this generation’s heavyweight ruler, Usyk.

Fans are hoping now that both Fury and Joshua have nowhere better to go than a fight of their own.

Speaking to iFL TV, former world champion Bruno – who starred in his own Battle of Britain against Lennox Lewis – had his say on the fight and sided with the naturally bigger man.

“Joshua and Fury? I think Fury, you know. If he gets himself together, pulls himself together, the weight he’s got amongst other things, he needs to use that.”

Were the fight to happen, it would allow the winner to secure their legacy and potentially retire on a career high.
