Frank Martin found out the tough way just how hard Gervonta Davis hits.
Martin challenged Davis for his WBA lightweight title at the MGM Grand in Las Vegas back in June, aiming to be the first man to defeat ‘Tank.’
It was a competitive fight, with only one point in it on the scorecards heading into the eighth round, but in the end Martin suffered the same fate as most of the other men that face Davis.
Martin has given his verdict on the power of Davis in a clip captured by Fight Hub TV, revealing just how ‘Tank’ is able to win most of his fights by knockout.
“He’s got power. He does a great job at landing the big shot. He knows how to land that shot and hit guys on the button to get them out of there. He’s an accurate puncher and knows how to land that shot.”
The win over Martin was the latest stoppage win for the Baltimore native, having also claimed wins inside the distance against the likes of Ryan Garcia, Leo Santa Cruz and Rolly Romero.
Next up for Davis is a fight against Lamont Roach at the Toyota Center in Houston, Texas on Friday 14 December, with WBA super-featherweight champion Roach stepping up from 130lbs for the lightweight battle.
WBC lightweight champion Shakur Stevenson has offered his thoughts on the match-up, giving a surprise verdict ahead of the showdown.
