Frank Warren and Daniel Dubois are currently in a superb position at the top of the heavyweight tree.
Dubois shocked the world last weekend when he knocked Anthony Joshua down several times on his way to a stoppage victory in the fifth round during their epic clash at Wembley Stadium in front of a record crowd of more than 96, 000 people.
It was his first defence of the IBF title he was awarded after being elevated to Full Champion when Oleksandr Usyk vacated the belt. Dubois has become Interim Champion by beating Fillip Hrgovic last time out, the victory built on a run that started with a knockout win over American Jarell Miller last December.
Speaking to BoxNation, promoter Warren was asked about the chance of him now facing Tyson Fury should Fury beat Usyk in their rematch in December.
“I can see where everyone is coming from with that one, we’ll see what happens. Personally, I believe Tyson will do a job and personally I don’t really want to see that fight happen between the two of them because I like them both. I have made lots of fights between my guys when the business calls for it but I’d feel pretty awkward. We’ll see what happens, we’ll take it as it comes. If the two best heavyweights have to get it on, they’ll get it on.”
He was then asked if he would be more keen on a rematch with Usyk. Dubois lost by KO to the Ukrainian last summer having put on a good showing in the early rounds. Warren didn’t hesitate.
“I’d make it in a heartbeat. In a heartbeat. I think this Daniel Dubois beats him. I bet he wouldn’t want to fight him.”
Of course, another option for Dubois is an immediate rematch with Joshua.
