Zhilei Zhang is one of the most entertaining heavyweights to watch right now.
The 41-year-old Chinese boxer is enjoying something of an Indian summer to his career. He turned pro in 2014 having missed out on a Gold medal at the London Olympics in 2012 and fought largely unheralded names until recent years.
His first big fight came in 2022 when he took on Croatian Fillip Hrgovic and lost a contentious decision on the scorecards before bouncing back with two impressive stoppage wins over the previously much-hyped Joe Joyce.
Zhang quickly returned to action and back to winning ways in June when he put on a fine showing against American heavy puncher and former heavyweight champion Deontay Wilder. The veteran stopped his man with another huge right hand in the fifth round out in Saudi Arabia to leave his record at 27 wins, 22 by KO with two losses and one draw.
Promoter Frank Warren has now outlined to Seconds Out who could be next for Zhang and believes it will be the man who already beat him this year.
“Zhilei Zhang has got a rematch clause with Parker. He wants it, they want it to happen so it will have to happen because there’s a rematch clause.”
If that fight doesn’t happen Zhang has another option in Martin Bakole. The Congolese heavyweight has stated his desire to face him having recently put in an impressive performance by stopping young American prospect Jared Anderson last weekend.
