Freddie Roach Shares Mike Tyson’s Honest Reaction To Watching Jake Paul Spar At His Gym

Freddie Roach has shed light on what happened when Mike Tyson watched Jake Paul spar at his gym.

Tyson was supposed to fight Paul back in July this year but an ulcer flare-up meant he had to delay it until November.

The fight has divided opinions given that Tyson has not fought professionally since 2005 when he lost his last two fights against two far-from-world-class boxers.

He is now almost 60 and has had several health issues in recent years, while Paul is still not yet 30.

Tyson does have a huge advantage in experience levels however having been the youngest ever world champion age just 20 and with a total of 58 bouts under his belt, an impressive 50 of which he won, 44 by stoppage.

Paul has had just 11 fights so far, with 10 wins and seven of them coming by way of stoppage, though the majority of his opponents have been boxing novices or those who have switched over from MMA.

Speaking to FightHype, legendary trainer Roach revealed that Paul has been in his famous Wildcard gym and Tyson was there but was seemingly unimpressed.

“Paul came in to the gym.

[Mike] Tyson looked at him and left. He watched 30 seconds of him spar. He said ‘can we go down stars and look at the pictures on the wall?’. He wasn’t interested [in watching Paul].”

He was then asked what he made of Paul as a fighter.

“He was OK. Tough fighter, I don’t really know the person. I never really met him. They just wanted to just use my gym, use the ring.”

Fans will soon find out whether experience trumps age as the pair enter the ring in November for eight two-minute rounds that will appear on their professional records and be livestream on Netflix.
