Mike Tyson‘s return to the ring ended in a defeat to Jake Paul.
The controversial showdown finally took place at the AT&T Stadium in Arlington, Texas on Friday and was broadcast live on streaming service Netflix, as 58-year-old Tyson came back for a professional contest for the first time since 2005.
Sadly it was a difficult watch at times, with ‘Iron Mike’ clearly struggling to compete with his much younger opponent, having entered the ring wearing a knee support and since revealing he nearly died back in the summer whilst preparing for the bout.
It was those complications earlier this year that led to the initial postponement of the fight, having originally meant to take place in July before it was rescheduled for this past weekend.
Paul ran out a comfortable unanimous decision winner, with the judges scoring it 80-72, 79-73 and 79-73 after eight two-minute rounds.
Many figures from boxing world have now shared their thoughts on what they made of the fight, including legendary Hall of Fame trainer Freddie Roach.
Roach worked with Tyson in the 2000s during the latter stages of his active career, and he took to social media to insist that the fight with Paul will not impact on his former fighter’s legacy.
“Mike Tyson will always be a legend no matter what.”
Despite saying in the ring post-fight that he may consider another bout, Tyson has since confirmed that it was his last.
Paul moves ahead with an 11-1 professional record and has been met by propositions from some of the biggest names in the sport.
