Carl Froch has been honest in his assessment of where Conor Benn is at right now.
Benn is still riding high off this unanimous points win over Chris Eubank Jr late last year. It was an impressive performance that saw him turn things around from the first fight when he lost on points himself, though many suspect Eubank was weight drained.
Since then, Benn has shouted loudly about wanting to fight for his first-ever world title and has called out several names, including Rolly Romero, who has now accused him of running, as well as Ryan Garcia, who recently became world champion by beating Mario Barrios.
Speaking to The Sun Sport and Froch On Fighting, former world champion Froch spoke of what he thinks would happen were Benn to fight Garcia.
“Conor Benn against Ryan Garcia, I think Conor gets absolutely splattered. I’ve got to be honest, I don’t think he’s got a chance. He’s not there yet. Who’s he beat? What’s he done? Who’s his biggest win?
“You can say [Chris Eubank] is a big win. Eubank got battered by Liam Smith. What’s Conor done to warrant a world title against this guy? He’s just not become a world champion and it’s become a good fight but I just think Ryan Garcia runs rings around him.”
Garcia has top level pedigree having also beaten Devin Haney, though that was latest changed to a non-contest when he tested positive for a banned substance.
While Benn chases that fight, he has, in the meantime, signed up to fight the veteran former world champion Regis Prograis in his first fight with Zuffa Boxing, having left Matchroom in a shock move.
