Carl Froch has had a last-minute change of heart with regards to Conor Benn and Chris Eubank Jr.‘s showdown this weekend in London.

This much-anticipated rematch comes seven months after the first fight, which was an engaging and entertaining battle across all 12 rounds.

Benn did better than many expected, given he was fighting up two weights from his usual division, though Eubank still did enough to pull away on the cards and take a unanimous points win.

The animosity between the two has not subsided ever since the fallout from the first cancelled fight date when Benn tested positive for banned substances.

Many expect a similarly heated fight second time around, although the question remains whether Eubank can maintain the same level given what the last fight took out of him, the fact is is now 36 and must again boil himself down to 160lbs when he has fought as high as super middleweight in the past.

Speaking on The Sun Sport, former world champion Froch – who sparred Eubank many years ago – went back on his previous prediction and admitted he will be siding with Benn despite the odds.

“Chris Eubank, size wise, slight favourite, even closer favourite than last time. I just think he’s probably got that edge. I’m probably going to pick Conor Benn, because the youngness, the freshness and what he learnt in the first fight will be enough.”

Benn is the younger, fresher fighter who is likely to have learnt more from the first fight, which is what makes this rematch so intriguing.
