Carl Froch has urged a certain heavyweight to walk away from boxing for good.
Froch enjoyed a successful 12-year career where he became super middleweight world champion on four occasions, defeating the likes of Jermain Taylor, Andre Dirrell and Mikkel Kessler.
The last two contests of his tenure came against George Groves in what was one of the most bitter rivalries in British boxing history, defeating his former foe on both occasions.
He now discusses the sport from outside the ropes and recently spoke out and sent a message to veteran British heavyweight Derek Chisora, who boxes for the 49th time as a professional on February 8 against Otto Wallin.
On his own YouTube channel ‘Froch On Fighting’, Froch urged Chisora to walk away from the sport regardless of the outcome in his bout against Wallin, with the prospect of the 41-year-old potentially sticking around for a 50th professional outing.
“Derek Chisora will be making his final walk to the ring in his 49th professional fight, I personally think he will stick around for the 50th, I sincerely hope he doesn’t – I don’t think he should be fighting again. He’s had a long [and] hard career, he’s been in with some of the best of the best fighters and he’s been knocked out a few times as well which ain’t good for your health.”
Chisora has been a consistent figure on the heavyweight scene for many years now, facing the likes Tyson Fury, Vitali Klitschko, Oleksandr Usyk and David Haye during his campaign.
He has enjoyed glimmers of success during his career, with impressive victories coming against Carlos Takam, Kubrat Pulev and Joe Joyce to name a few.
Whatever happens after his showdown against Wallin this month, ‘War’ can be proud of the life he has made for himself through boxing, and the opportunities he has been given since his debut 18-years ago. He will, however, push on for 50.
