Carl Froch Says One Current Champion Is A Better Pound For Pound Fighter Than Floyd Mayweather

In the latter stages of his career, Floyd Mayweather called himself the best ever, but Carl Froch thinks there is one active current champion who is better.

Mayweather is an American boxing legend who put together a superb and undefeated 50-0 career between 1996 to 2017. He was celebrated for his defensive brilliance, speed and precision on his way to winning world titles in five weight divisions.

He famously became the sport’s highest earner while defeating greats like Manny Pacquiao, Oscar De La Hoya and Saul ‘Canelo’ Alvarez and wasn’t put down even once during his career.

His legacy defines boxing excellence as well as business mastery, but in recent times, Froch believes one man has emerged as potentially even better, pound-for-pound.

When asked to pick a winner between Mayweather and Oleksandr Usyk, ‘The Cobra’ hesitated before siding with the Ukrainian.

“Now you’re asking, I want to put them on a level par. But you know what, I’m going to have to pick Oleksandr Usyk.”

Usyk is a former Olympic gold medallist turned undisputed cruiserweight champion. He moved up to the banner division in 2018 and has cleaned it out on his way to becoming history’s first-ever two-time undisputed ruler in the four-belt era.

He has remained undefeated while twice beating Anthony Joshua, Tyson Fury and Daniel Dubois and, like Mayweather, has never been put down in the ring and has barely ever even looked hurt.

Now close to retirement, he has only a couple of fights left and could next face the winner of the match-up between Joseph Parker and Fabio Wardley this weekend.
