Carl Froch has sparred Chris Eubank Jr and has offered insight into his rematch with Conor Benn.
These two generational rivals first came together back in April when Eubank managed to use his natural size advantage to see out a unanimous points win after 12 hard-fought rounds.
The fight followed more than two years of build-ups, animosity, barbed words, egg slaps and a failed drug test but lived up to the hype, with the rematch now set for November 15 in London.
A number of boxing figures have already weighed in on how the second meeting may go, and now former super-middleweight world champion Froch has had his say.
Speaking on his Froch on Fighting, ‘The Cobra’ wondered if Benn might be able to be more calculated in his work to unpick Eubank.
“We want to see the rematch because it was a good fight. Conor Benn might be able to turn it round and change it. He might be able to box more calmly behind the jab. Take his time a bit more and then maybe pick his shots a bit better and not rush things.
“He did hurt Eubank in round three in the first fight. Can he capitalise on that by being a bit cuter behind the jab and trying to look for a smart shot rather than looking for a wild shot and forcing the pace.
“Forcing the pace against Eubank Jr doesn’t work, I know that from sparring him in the gym. You put him under the cosh, he fights back, he fights fire with fire. He was able to finish stronger, plaudits to him, I was shocked by the fact he could finish stronger because of the weight clause.”
If Benn does come out with a rematch win, he could move on to a world title shot with Lewis Crocker having already given him the green light for a shot at his IBF welterweight title.
