Carl Froch Delivers Honest Verdict On Floyd Mayweather vs Mike Tyson: “He Can’t Hurt Him”

Carl Froch has weighed in on the shock news that Mike Tyson and Floyd Mayweather will be fighting next year.

It was reported last week that a fight between Tyson and Mayweather is set to take place, despite the fact ‘Iron Mike’ is almost 60 years old.

The former heavyweight world champion fought back in November last year when he lost a wide decision to Jake Paul, but is now scheduled to meet former multi-weight world champion and all-time great Mayweather, who never fought higher than 154lbs.

It has already garnered a lot of reaction from the boxing world, and speaking on Froch on Fighting, former super-middleweight world champion Froch didn’t hold back with his view on the contest.

“In my opinion, I don’t think this fight should be happen. I know it’s an exhibition. It sounds sensational, two of the biggest names in boxing history, really, you mention them to anybody, they are going know how they are. One’s half the size of the other.

“Tyson’s 58, 59, Mayweather is my age, 49 years old, still a spring chicken, can still do it. For me, it’s a fight that shouldn’t really be happening. What’s it doing? What’s it proving? What are they getting out of it?”

Despite Mayweather being the much younger man, Froch says the size will play a significant part.

“I don’t like the fight. Is there a health issue here? I don’t think Mayweather can hurt Tyson. I don’t think he’s big enough. Height-wise it’s not a massive difference, but he will look tiny next to Tyson. Tyson is big and stocky and thickset. The weight difference will be big.”

The number of rounds, size of gloves and any weight restrictions have not yet been revealed for the fight, nor has a date or venue, with some already calling it a ‘pantomime fight.’
