Carl Froch Didn’t Hesitate When Asked If He Would Beat Prime Roy Jones Jr

Carl Froch versus Roy Jones Jr is an intriguing fantasy fight that ‘The Cobra’ has now broken down himself.

Nottingham’s Froch is a former world super-middleweight champion who held versions of the IBF, WBA and WBC belts as well as plenty of regional titles.

He had some epic battles with the likes of fellow Brit George Groves, twice, Mikkel Kessler, twice, and big wins on away soil against Lucian Bute as well as a dramatic last-second KO win over Jermain Taylor, with one of his two career losses coming against the then pound-for-pound star Andre Ward in 2011.

Jones Jr is an even more decorated former professional who won world titles in four weight classes including middleweight, super middleweight, light heavyweight and heavyweight, with his last contest coming in 2023 and leaving him with a record of 76 fights, 66 wins, 47 knockouts.

Speaking to ProBoxTV, Froch broke down how a fight between the two Hall of Famers might go and was honest about what a hard night it would have been.

“He hits ya. I can’t say he wouldn’t have hit me, because I get hit with shots. If I’d have got my guard up, he’d have brought that guard down. He’d have been too quick with that jab and he’d have just out-worked me, with speed.”

“[Jones would] have hammered me. You asked me what would have happened — he’d have beaten me up. That’s what would have happened.”

Froch remains a popular voice in boxing, while Jones Jr became a trainer and previously coached Chris Eubank Jr, who he has tipped to beat Conor Benn in their upcoming showdown in April.
