After taking a second consecutive defeat, Tyson Fury is now left considering whether or not to retire from the sport of boxing.
The only two losses on his professional record have come against the great Oleksandr Uysk. The first was back in May when ‘The Gypsy King’ surrendered his WBC title and Usyk became the undisputed heavyweight champion having previously been undisputed down at cruiserweight back in 2018.
The rematch this past weekend was close but it ultimately went the same way, only this time Usyk got a unanimous decision on the cards after landing better, cleaner shots throughout the majority of the 12 rounds.
Speaking from Saudi Arabia on his own YouTube channel, ‘The Cobra’ addressed the issue of Fury’s retirement.
“Tyson, I don’t know how he will take that, another loss. In the build-up when he was giving Usyk some beef, you could see that he actually has a bit of hatred for him cause he’s ruined his legacy and his career. He’s had back-to-back defeats, can he cope with that and retire?”
He then suggested he should hang up the gloves and leave content after achieving so much.
“I sincerely hope he can cope with that loss, back-to-back defeats, and walk away with his chin held high and smile ’cause he’s been a great character and had a great career.
I wouldn’t blame him if he jumped in with AJ because it’s a fight that will sell, it will fill Wembley. I don’t think they’ll get 80,000 in there but it would be a big crowd and a sign off payday. But, to be honest, it’s not a big fight for me. It’s almost like the battle of the losers isn’t it.”
Fury said in the immediate aftermath that he would take time to think about where to go from. A big factor is likely the fight with Anthony Joshua which is a huge carrot that could lure him back for one last dance.
