Carl Froch has questioned Fabio Wardley’s approach to his highly-anticipated rematch with Daniel Dubois on Saturday night.
Dubois and Wardley locked horns for the first time back in May, producing a heavyweight showdown for the ages as ‘DDD’ dethroned his countryman of the WBO world heavyweight title at the Co-Op Live Arena in Manchester.
The 29-year-old proved to be too much for Wardley once again in their second encounter at the O2 Arena in London, dropping his rival in the opening round before stopping the popular Ipswich-native in the second round to retain his WBO heavyweight crown and stake his claim as arguably the best active heavyweight on the planet.
Speaking on his YouTube channel, British boxing great Froch summed up Wardley’s performance as he claims the 31-year-old didn’t seem to have much of a ‘gameplan’ in a bid to reclaim his heavyweight title.
“He’s tough, Fabio Wardley. He took a right hook there to the side of the head, then he took an uppercut. He’s still standing, he’s not stopped on his feet. I’d say he’s done himself proud and he had a go, he didn’t really have a go, he didn’t seem to have much of a gameplan and he never tried to set anything up.”
Dubois looked much like his formidable self against Wardley and will have his sights set on a unification showdown in the future, with reports suggesting the hard-hitting Brit could potentially face IBF heavyweight champion Filip Hrgovic for the second time down the line.
