Derek Chisora suffered a battling defeat to Deontay Wilder this past weekend, and Carl Froch has got plenty to say about the veteran heavyweight.
The fight was both men’s 50th contest and one that leaves the loser with few options but retirement. Chirosa has been a hugely entertaining presence in the banner division over the last 20 years and has fought a long list of its biggest stars and best talents.
It wasn’t to be though as after a 12-round scrappy affair, it was Wilder who came out on top thanks to a split decision win.
Speaking on his own YouTube Channel, former super-middleweight world champion Froch had plenty of praise for Chisora, though feels it is now time for ‘Del Boy’ to hang up the gloves.
“Definitely 100%, for me, time to retire. I need to give him a mention of what a fantastic career he’s had. OK he’s fought a lot of top names and never been a world champion, but his service to boxing has been so good.
“He fought Tyson Fury three times, he fought Vitali Klitschko, slapped him straight across the chops. He was a bit of a bad boy; people wouldn’t warm to him to start with, then all of a sudden he became a man of the people. He’s definitely loved, I think he’s great, I’ve got to be honest.
“Vitali Klitschko, Oleksandr Usyk, Dillian Whyte twice, David Haye, Agit Kabayel and now Deontay Wilder. The list of them names, it’s a proper who’s who of boxing. He’s been knocked out a couple of times, which is another reason I think he should retire.
“At 40 years old, you’ve been knocked out and heavily confused, and you’re taking shots cause you can move your head and feet like you used to, that’s another reason you should retire, but I’m giving him his credit. He can go out of the game with his chin held high.”
Chisora admitted after the fight that he was tired and could not do this any more. If this is the end, he has had a fantastic career that puts him high up the list of all-time British heavyweights.
