Carl Froch has never been shy about telling a fighter when he thinks they should retire.
Froch timed his own retirement as perfectly as possible. He bowed out in front of 80, 000 people at Wembley Stadium by stopping his bitter rival George Groves with the cleanest one-punch knockout of his career to defend his world title one last time.
Since then, he has suggested the likes of Anthony Joshua and Dillian Whyte should both hang up the gloves, and now he has turned his attention to an American former WBC champion and someone many think could be one of the biggest punchers the division has ever seen.
Speaking on Froch on Fighting, ‘The Cobra’ explained why he thinks Deontay Wilder is finished at the top level in the context of being called out by Oleksandr Usyk.
“The Deontay Wilder fight, for me, he’s lost four of his last six, the two with Fury, and then the Zhang and the Parker fight. For me, Wilder is done, he’s finished, he can’t take a punch, and he doesn’t even look like he’s punching hard anymore. So that element of oh, Wilder can punch hard, he might catch Usyk, it might be an exciting fight, Usyk is too clever, he’s too smart.”
Wilder is now locked in to fight Brit Derek Chisora first in what will be ‘Del Boy’s 50th fight, and it seems that whoever comes out on top of their fight could go on to fight Usyk for the unified titles later in the year.
