Carl Froch hasn’t held back when it comes to a former world heavyweight champion.

Froch’s career came to an end back in 2014, when he competed for the final time when he secured a knockout victory over bitter rival George Groves at Wembley Stadium.

It was the perfect way for Froch to sail into retirement, and ‘The Cobra’ has now named the man who he believes needs to follow his lead and hang up the gloves.

Anthony Joshua is a former two-time world heavyweight champion, who has defeated the likes of Wladimir Klitschko, Joseph Parker, Dillian Whyte and Alexander Povetkin during his decade-plus career in the sport.

Things have been tough for ‘AJ’ as of late though, suffering two straight losses to Oleksandr Usyk in 2021 and 2022, before a huge knockout defeat to Daniel Dubois back in September 2024.

Speculation continues over who Joshua will potentially face next, but Froch has told his Froch On Fighting YouTube channel that ‘AJ’ is ‘finished’ and should retire.

“I personally feel Anthony Joshua is finished, he’s done. He’s had a fantastic career in terms of the old bunce, he was great for boxing back then, his legacy will be remembered for bringing straight into the forefront and bringing boxing back to mainstream stadium fights.

Obviously he followed me fighting in the stadiums. I set it up and he took the lead with that. Him and Eddie Hearn and Sky Sports and that 5-year-deal, he became a massive star. But he’s had his career, he’s made his money and he got found out.

As soon as he stepped up in class, and even before he stepped up in class he got flattened by Andy Ruiz. Then he stepped up against Usyk, he got outclassed twice, badly beaten up and done, and then he’s been ironed out and finished by Dubois. That for me is all she wrote. That should be the end of AJ’s career, I’ve no interest in it, I don’t want to see him fight again.”

While Froch believes that Joshua should retire, ‘AJ’ continues to be linked to a clash with Tyson Fury, and some of boxing’s biggest names have already made their prediction for that clash.
