Carl Froch has made his feelings perfectly clear when it comes to a former world heavyweight champion.

Froch enjoyed a long and successful career of his own, becoming a three-time super-middleweight world champion and defeating fighters such as Mikkel Kessler, Lucian Bute and George Groves along the way.

‘The Cobra’ hung up his gloves in 2014 and as of yet hasn’t been tempted to make a return, but the same can’t be said for one of the heavyweight division’s biggest names that is back in action this month for the first time in over a year.

Deontay Wilder held the WBC heavyweight title for five years from 2015 to 2020 before losing the belt to Tyson Fury, and since then it’s been an extremely difficult period for ‘The Bronze Bomber.’

He has lost four of his last five fights, including a knockout defeat to Zhilei Zhang last summer. Many boxing figures urged Wilder to retire following that bout, but he will continue with his career when he faces Tyrrell Herndon on June 27.

Froch has now shared his thoughts on Wilder on his Froch On Fighting YouTube channel, claiming that ‘The Bronze Bomber’ is ‘finished’ and that it would be a good fight for British fan favourite Dave Allen.

“Dave Allen and Wilder potentially could be an interesting one, because Wilder is finished. He’s past his best. He can still probably punch a little bit but it would be nice to see Dave Allen in with a name like that and get a result. It’s a fight I’d tune in to, definitely.”

Froch has been of the opinion for a while now, questioning the American’s ability after his defeat to Parker and, after his loss to Zhang, saying, “it’s definitely time for Wilder to retire.”

Allen himself has made it clear that he would welcome a fight with Wilder, after calling out the American following his knockout win over Johnny Fisher last month.
