Carl Froch has never been one to sugar-coat his views on the boxing world.
The former super-middleweight world champion is a straight talker who, much like when he was in the ring, never pulls a punch. He has fallen out before with the likes of Anthony Joshua and John Fury given his forthright views and has now been assessing recent action in the heavyweight division.
That includes the Fabio Wardley and Frazer Clarke rematch after a Fight of the Year contender when they first battled it out to a draw in a gruelling bout back in March.
Wardley ended the rematch inside the first round after landing a number of stunning right hands on Clarke, who seemed to get caught cold and never fully recover.
Speaking on Froch on Fighting, ‘The Cobra’ expressed his surprise at how the fight went.
“One round blast out by Fabio Wardley. Fair play but f**king hell, what happened to Frazer Clarke? He got clumped bad from the opener.
“I think what happened here is Frazer Clarke came out round one, bit slow, switched off, not concentrating, and Wardley was the complete opposite to that came out firing on all cylinders, sharp with the jab, loading up with that right hand. missed with a couple of them and gave Frazer Clarke the chance to counter him but he got the job done.”
Froch then spoke of the impact of the final right hand that Wardley landed while Clarke was on the ropes.
“Almost instantly he got a dent in the side of his head, the side of his face and mouth dropped. He looked like he sustained some bad damage there and I hope he fully recovers and there are no lasting effects but that looked like it did some serious damage.”
Finally, Froch predicted that Clarke might retire given his age and where the loss leaves him after he required surgery to fix his broken cheek and jaw.
“He’s getting on now, Olympic Bronze medalist, he’s had a slow-burning career and now after that beating, this may be the last we hear of him.”
Wardley meanwhile is hoping to push on to world level.
