Carl Froch has given his verdict on Oleksandr Usyk fighting Daniel Dubois for a second time.
These two heavyweights first fought back in August of 2023 out in Poland in front of a hugely pro-Usyk crowd.
Dubois did well early on, landed some shots and even had the Ukrainian down in the mid-rounds with a body shot, although it was soon ruled a low blow and Usyk was given all the time he needed to recover.
He did just that, reestablished himself in the fight and eventually overpowered ‘DDD’ and knocked him out in the ninth round to retain his unified world heavyweight titles.
He went on to fight Tyson Fury and won to become the undisputed champion, and after vacating a belt, he rematched Fury in December 2024 and once again came out on top.
Dubois meanwhile was elevated to IBF champion with his win over Filip Hrgovic last summer and followed that up with a demolition of Anthony Joshua in September.
He was due to defend once more against Joseph Parker in February but fell ill and was withdrawn from the fight, so may now choose to honour the defence with Parker, or instead he can chase a second fight with Usyk and look to become undisputed champion.
Speaking on Froch on Fighting, ‘The Cobra’ has assessed how the Ukrainian might bow out.
“If Usyk fights Dubois and does the business then you’re hanging your gloves up for me. You’ve achieved everything and you’ve then given Dubois a chance to redeem himself after that low-blow stroke body shot and answered all the questions.
“You’re fighting a guy that’s a lot younger and got a lot of experience now. It’s a brave move from Usyk and he’s got nothing left to prove.”
