Carl Froch continues to tease a potential return to the ring.
‘The Cobra’ retired from boxing back in 2014 following his knockout victory over George Groves at Wembley Stadium, ending a career which saw him become a multiple-time super-middleweight world champion.
He claimed wins over fighters such as Mikkel Kessler, Jermain Taylor, Jean Pascal, Lucian Bute and Arthur Abraham during that time, and is widely regarded as one of the best 168lbs fighters in recent memory.
Over the past few months, Froch has been linked with a return to the sport, with Darren Till seen as the most likely option after the former UFC star began to compete on Misfits Boxing events.
Most recently Till claimed a knockout win against Luke Rockhold, with Froch in attendance to witness the victory and get involved in a back and forth with the Liverpudlian after the bout.
It seems that Till is no longer on Froch’s mind though, after he revealed in a conversation with ex-trainer Robert McCracken on his Froch On Fighting YouTube channel that he is only willing to return for a bout against long-term rival Joe Calzaghe.
“It’d be good to get a little move around with JC [Joe Calzaghe] if he fancies it, we’ll see. That’s the problem with the Till fight, it’s not big enough, he’s not done anything. He’s an ex-UFC fighter but in terms of boxing people are not ar*ed, but if JC came back in, that would be big, the nostalgia, that would be wicked.”
Calzaghe and Froch have been bitter rivals for over a decade, but the pair never competed against one another inside a boxing ring.
The Welshman retired with a perfect undefeated record of 46-0, and while it’s currently unknown whether a clash between Calzaghe and Froch could ever come to fruition, it hasn’t stopped some of their former rivals speculating over who would come out on top.
