Sebastian Fundora appears to be targeting one man in particular ahead of his return to the ring.
‘The Towering Inferno’ was last in action just several weeks ago when he stopped fellow countryman Keith Thurman in the sixth round of their clash at the MGM Grand Garden Arena in Las Vegas, Nevada.
The American duo were originally scheduled to face each other last October but the fight was postponed after Fundora suffered an injury.
Former world welterweight champion Thurman proved to be no match for the WBC world light-middleweight champion who is now unbeaten in four bouts since he suffered a shock defeat to Brian Mendoza back in April of 2023.
With rumours already circulating about who Fundora could face next, a key member of the 28-year-old’s team has issued an update on this situation.
In an interview with Manouk Akopyan, Fundora’s promoter Sampson Lewkowicz revealed that his fighter is chasing a unification showdown with Britain’s Josh Kelly, who currently holds the IBF world super-welterweight title.
“It would be unbelievable if that could happen. It will be like a tournament featuring four of the top 154-pounders in the world, and the winners can fight for the undisputed championship afterward.”
Kelly produced the performance of a lifetime back in January when he dethroned the hard-hitting Bakhram Murtazaliev of the IBF light-middleweight crown at the Utilita Arena in Newcastle, England.
The 32-year-old from Sunderland is reportedly said to be interested in facing Fundora next after it was recently revealed that the duo are in the early stages of talks for a bout that could take place during the summer.
