Tyson Fury and Oleksandr Usyk have both spent time at the top of the heavyweight division.

Fury is a former unified heavyweight champion who beat the likes of Wladimir Klitschko, Dillian Whyte, and twice stopped Deontay Wilder. Usyk has beaten Fury twice, Anthony Joshua twice and Daniel Dubois to become the undisputed champion of the division.

However, both men are now in their late 30s, Fury is already retired and Usyk is surely not too far behind him, so talk has naturally turned to who might be the successor to his throne.

In response to a post on social media by Moses Itauma, who was praising Fury’s abilities after a sparring session, ‘The Gypsy King’ declared the young fighter to be his star of tomorrow.

“Moses Itauma is the future of the heavyweight division.”

Elsewhere, when he was asked by talkSPORT about who might take up his mantle as the next undisputed heavyweight champion once he has retired, Usyk didn’t hesitate.

“Moses Itauma, I think is a great fighter. Young. 20 years old. I think Itauma has a big future.”

Itauma turned pro just over two years ago and quickly set his sights on becoming the youngest heavyweight world champion of all time and breaking Mike Tyson‘s record when he was 20 years, 4 months and 22 days old.

He has not managed that, but has been moving at a steady pace through the division. His two most impressive outings have been stoppage wins inside the first two rounds against Mariusz Wach and Demsey McKean.

Next time out in August, he has his most significant challenge to date when he takes on former world title challenger Dillian Whyte. Another win in that contest would surely put him right in the frame for a world title shot sooner rather than later.
