Tyson Fury last fought in December 2024 and soon after that announced his retirement.

That fight was his second of the year, his second contest with Oleksandr Usyk, and only his second ever loss in the ring. He gave up his WBC belt in the first fight, which saw Usyk become undisputed and failed to win it back in the rematch, which is what led him to announce his retirement.

Since then, he has begun talking of making a return in 2026, and initially said he wanted a trilogy with Usyk, though there is little appetite for that amongst the fans.

Instead, they would rather see him fight his long-time rival Anthony Joshua, in what would be an epic showdown as both men head towards lasting retirement.

Speaking to Seconds Out, however, Fury was offered another route back as WBO heavyweight champion Fabio Wardley revealed his interest in taking on the best of the division, and name-checked ‘The Gypsy King.

“Look, I want the best around. The best fights, the best fighters. Before I became world champion, if you look at my career, I’m not one to pick an easy fight or tick over with something light.

“I want to be stuck into something competitive so whoever those top guys are. I know Fury was flirting with coming back the other day. ‘AJ’, I know he’s busy with Jake Paul, but after that maybe those type of guys.”

Wardley was last in action when he claimed a stoppage win over Joseph Parker in October, which earned him the WBO interim title. He was elevated to full champion when Usyk vacated his belt, and seemingly now so has plenty of options in the New Year, much like Fury.
