Tyson Fury has been told he can fight for a world title if he wins his upcoming fight against Arslanbek Makhmudov.
Fury will be 38 later this year so he is likely back in the ring for what will be his final run of fights. He has spent the last year in retirement following consecutive losses to Oleksandr Usyk, the first in May 2024, the second in December of the same year. Both of them came on the cards after the completion of 12 rounds, and both defeats he contests.
They were the first blemishes of a decorated career that left ‘The Gypsy King’ without a belt, having previously been the unified champion after beating Wladimir Klitschko in 2015, and the WBC ruler after two wins and a draw over American puncher Deontay Wilder in their epic trilogy.
His first fight back in more than 12 months is in April against Makhmudov, who was last out against Dave Allen and won on points in late 2025.
Should Fury come through that, current WBO ruler Fabio Wardley has opened the door to an all-British title fight in an interview with Sky Sports.
“I had an open invitation to him at the start of the year before he signed up for his fight with Makhmudov and before I even signed my fight with Daniel. I said look if you want to go straightaway we can go straightaway, it’s no bother.
“But if he wants a little warm-up and he wants to get through that and see how he feels, blah, blah, blah, then cool, no bother to me. I’ll still be ready and waiting after I’m done with Daniel for a massive fight.”
