Tyson Fury has been teasing a ring return for several weeks.
‘The Gypsy King’ retired back in January, just weeks after his second consecutive loss to Oleksandr Usyk. Although he has recently suggested that he thinks he won both of those fights, though few would agree, as the first one saw him stay on his feet only because of the ropes, and the second one was a unanimous points decision for Usyk.
The losses saw Fury lose the WBC title he had held since beating Deontay Wilder in the second fight in their epic trilogy, and he defended it again in their final showdown in 2021, which was one of the greatest heavyweight fights of the modern era.
Speaking to IFL TV, Fury laid out when and how he might return to the ring.
“Don’t hold your breath, it’s not going to be this year but it might be next year. If I get the right offer, I’ll come back in 2026. If it turns me one, I’ll come back, but if there’s no turn on, I’ll stay retired.”
He was then asked which names might draw him out once more, and he said it’s no longer about belts.
“‘AJ’, Usyk, Dubois, any of them, or maybe all of them.”
Fury may wish to have a warm-up given he has been out of the ring since December 2024. Dubois would likely have to rebuild before there was much clamour for the two to square off, and Usyk has already soundly beaten Fury twice. It is an all-British clash with Anthony Joshua that is likely the fight most people would want to see before it’s too late.
