Tyson Fury has weighed in on Chris Eubank Jr and Conor Benn‘s grudge match, now agreed and set for April with an official announcement pending.
The pair first signed to fight back in 2022, sold on the history of their fathers who faced off twice in the nineties. Since then, Benn and Eubank have built their own rivalry, though it wasn’t settled on the original date due to Benn testing positive for a banned substance.
Now free to apply for a British license and fight on these shores after a two-year battle, the fight has been signed and is slated to take place at the Tottenham Hotspur Stadium.
Speaking to TNT Sports Boxing, ‘The Gypsy King’ was not confident that Benn can move up to 160 pounds and beat the bigger man in Eubank, who has fought as high as 168 in the past.
“It’s a weight category thing. If it’s at 10 stone or whatever it is, 10 and a half stone, it’s going to be Conor Benn, if it’s at middleweight, it’s probably going to be Eubank.”
There is a reported rehydration clause of ten pounds for the middleweight bout, meaning Eubank won’t be allowed to weigh over 170 on fight day. If he does so, there will likely be significant financial penalties, though all the details have not yet been revealed.
Benn is comfortable at the welterweight limit of 147, though he has weighed in at 154 for a 2023 distance win against Rodolfo Orozco. The 28-year-old is confident of scoring the knockout regardless, telling fans to bet on a stoppage within four rounds.
