Tyson Fury has weighed in on the proposed fight between Anthony Joshua and Andre Ward.
A shock bout between Joshua and Ward has been touted over the past 24 hours, with Ward claiming he would be willing to end his eight-year retirement to move up to heavyweight for the showdown.
Ward was a two-weight world champion in his illustrious career, defeating the likes of Sergey Kovalev, Carl Froch and Mikkel Kessler along the way, and he explained why he would now be tempted to return at heavyweight against Joshua.
“There’s one name that I brought up before that when you say that name I can see myself fighting him. Present day. Today. If the business was right and everything was right on that front, me and Anthony Joshua.
“That’s a fight that I would take at Wembley Stadium. It’s a dangerous fight for my legacy, it’s a dangerous fight across the board. But that’s a fight that would get me in the gym and get me in the mindset that I need to be in to go to war. It’s Anthony Joshua. I know he’s getting ready to fight Jake Paul, I ain’t talking about that. I’m talking about a real fight.”
Joshua is a two-time world heavyweight champion, but hasn’t fought since a defeat to Daniel Dubois in September 2024. It was believed a fight against long-term rival Fury could then happen in 2025, but ‘The Gypsy King’ retired in January following his back-to-back losses to Oleksandr Usyk.
While he may have hung up the gloves, Fury remains vocal on the current boxing scene, and had a damning verdict on social media for Ward’s desire to face Joshua.
“Jokes how many people wanting AJ now. Who next [the] winner of Canelo vs Crawford?”
Canelo and Terence Crawford collide in September, with it unlikely any of them will follow Ward’s lead and call for a bout with Joshua once victorious.
Instead, AJ continues to be linked with a shock fight with Jake Paul, and Fury has also given his prediction for that proposed battle too.
