Heavyweight boxing is thriving as one chapter closes and a new school of fighters look to prove they are worthy of the most discussed division in the sport.

With Oleksandr Usyk doing the double of both Anthony Joshua and Tyson Fury to become undisputed champion, the Ukrainian’s era, as well as that of the two Brits, is coming to an end soon.

Whilst they may fight on for a period, fans are looking to the younger stars as to who they will be backing in the future, including new IBF World Champion Daniel Dubois, 27.

There are contenders queueing up for Dubois, not least Joseph Parker who gets his chance on February 22, but also up-and-comers like Moses Itauma who is looking to be fast-tracked to the very top.

One man who recently put his name on the map by signing with Eddie Hearn’s Matchroom is the charismatic 6 ft 6 in Teremoana Teremoana.

The Campbelltown native won Gold at the Pacific Games 2023 before being put out in the quarter finals of the 2024 Olympics by Uzbekistan’s Bakhodir Jalolov, who would win gold. He had quietly built a pro record of 4-0 before those amateur efforts before signing with Matchroom and beating Volodymyr Katsuk in a round back in December.

It was a quick turnaround to face Germany’s Osasu Otobo today down under and an even quicker stoppage.

With a straight right followed by a left hook, Teremoana had his man down and hurt less than a minute in. He wouldn’t make the count, marking the sixth straight knockout victory for the rising Aussie star.

Post-fight, he warned other heavyweights not to come to fight with him.

“First and foremost I want to give all glory and praise to my lord and saviour Jesus Christ, without him this wouldn’t be possible. Yeah, very happy to get this done. 57 seconds. I thought I was going to go a bit longer but he wanted to fight. If you want to come and fight I’m gonna come and take it from you. I’m glad he wanted to engage and I got the job done … I just trust on everything I did in training, trust my coaches and everything they told me. It shows on the night.”

Promoter Eddie Hearn then talked up the 26-year-old’s future.

“They say don’t get excited too early… It’s time to get excited now. Australian boxing is on fire right now, this is the future right here. I truly believe that Australia has a great chance at a future world heavyweight champion. I want the whole country to get behind this guy. He’s a young prospect, a great man and he can really fight. This is a dangerous, dangerous man. Six fights, six knockouts, I believe he’s going all the way to the world heavyweight title. You could be looking at Australia’s world heavyweight champion here.”

Teremoana will be back out in March in Sydney with an opponent yet to be announced.
