Jaron Ennis is quickly filling the void left by Terence Crawford at welterweight.
After Crawford beat Errol Spence Jr to become undisputed at 147 and the contracted rematch never materialised, the 36-year-old moved up a division to 154.
Earlier this month, he made a successful debut defeating WBA champion Israil Madrimov and creating more history by capturing a world title in a fourth weight class.
Meanwhile, Ennis is one of the rising stars of the sport and is now the man to beat at welterweight. ‘Boots’, who boasts 29 knockouts from his 32 wins, believes he has everything required to beat his fellow American and has called for the fight on several occasions.
One man who has shared the ring with both is highly rated prospect and ‘future star’ Freudis Rojas. In an interview with FightHype Rojas, who is undefeated in 14 fights, backed Crawford to use his experience to get the victory over the his younger rival.
“They are both tremendous fighters, they have two whole different styles but kind of both fight the same. Being in there first with ‘Bud’ then being in there with ‘Ennis’ two weeks later when I went down to Philly.
I always said to everybody that I think ‘Bud’ will take it because of the experience he has. When I’m in there and the rounds go by and he see’s me touching him with one thing it’s not going to happen again until the second round, he’s always switching it up which causes me to think.
You can’t compare Ennis to ‘Bud’, he’s still newer to the game and i don’t think he’s fought as much at the top level as ‘Bud’ has. I just go off experience but they both hit tremendously hard. ‘Bud’s body shots are crazy, they make you rethink life, like ‘why am I doing boxing man’?”
A fight between the two looks unlikely with Crawford reported to only be willing to return to the ring for a shot against super-middleweight champion Saul ‘Canelo’ Alvarez.
