Ryan Garcia has been accused of avoiding a showdown with a two-time world champion in a sensational claim.
‘King Ry’ finds himself at a crossroads in his professional career after he suffered an upset defeat to fellow countryman Rolando ‘Rolly’ Romero earlier this year.
The 27-year-old from California was beaten via unanimous decision by ‘Rolly’ when they clashed at the iconic Times Square in New York City on May 2, falling short in his attempt at becoming the WBA Regular welterweight champion in the process.
It was Garcia’s first ring appearance since he defeated former undisputed lightweight champion Devin Haney in April 2024, although the result was eventually overturned to a no contest after it was revealed that ‘King Ry’ had tested positive for a banned substance.
With it currently unknown who Garcia will face next, there has been a big claim made on social media by two-weight world champion Teofimo Lopez, who said Garcia has actually avoided facing him next in what would have been an intriguing showdown.
“Hey Oscar De La Hoya, why don’t you tell the people who’s ducking who!”
Lopez currently reigns as the WBO super-lightweight champion, making the third successful defence of his crown against mandatory challenger Arnold Barboza Jr on the undercard of Garcia’s defeat to Romero on May 2.
‘The Takeover’ is reportedly in line to face reigning WBC world lightweight champion Shakur Stevenson next, revealing on social media that he has accepted a fight with his fellow countryman that could take place during the early stages of 2026.
As for Garcia, the 27-year-old is currently recovering from a surgery that he had on his right hand just weeks after his clash with Romero, with an official update on his return to the ring set to drop in the coming weeks.
